If you hunt in the Lower Peninsula

To hunt antlerless deer in the Lower Peninsula, all you will need is a universal antlerless license.

  • Universal antlerless deer licenses are available for purchase over the counter without an application.
  • This license is valid on public and private lands in all deer seasons and in all deer management units open to antlerless hunting without an access permit.
  • If you are participating in a reserved deer hunt at the Sharonville State Game Area, Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge, Shiawassee River National Wildlife Refuge or Shiawassee River State Game Area, you will need to apply for a reserved deer hunt access permit.

If you hunt in the Upper Peninsula

You might need to apply for an antlerless deer hunting access permit.

  • In deer management units 022, 122, 055, 155, 255 and 121 in the U.P., all you will need is a universal antlerless deer license to hunt antlerless deer.
    • You do not need an antlerless deer hunting access permit to hunt in these DMUs.
    • Universal antlerless licenses are available for purchase over the counter without an application.
    • This license is valid on public and private lands in all deer seasons and in DMUs open to antlerless hunting without an antlerless permit.
  • In the central part of the U.P., new DMUs 351 and 352 will require an antlerless deer hunting access permit AND a universal antlerless deer license to hunt antlerless deer.
    • DMU 351 is made up of DMUs 021, 349, 249, 149, 017 and 117. DMU 352 is made up of DMUs 027, 036, 152 and 252. A map is available on page 60 in the 2021 Hunting Digest or see the interactive DMU map online.
    • 1,000 access permits will be available in each of these two DMUs.
    • One antlerless deer hunting access permit for the DMU you are hunting plus one universal antlerless deer license is required for each deer harvested.
    • Universal antlerless licenses are available for purchase over the counter without an application.
  • DMUs 127, 066, 031, 131, 042, 007 and 048 in the northern part of the U.P. are closed to antlerless hunting.
